CHRISTMAS TREAT

The climax of every City Life year is a special Christmas treat for the kids.  This is a full day of fun, food, and games for kids of all ages in the Southside and neighbouring communities.

We catered for approximately 500 children in 2006 and expect the number to double in December 2007.

The Treat is not held in a specific park or field.  All activities are brought inside the community and along the street-sides.

Much like our Street Beat Programme, CLM intends to bring the community to life by ‘taking it to the streets’ and placing the activity stations directly outside their homes. This allows the community members to take part in the preparation of the area and to help coordinate the activities.

Activities include: Popcorn stand, Cotton candy stand, Bounce-abouts, Merry-go-round, Donkey Cart rides, Face Painting, snacks, and various other games. The evening is climaxed with a street concert featuring entertainers from outside as well as within the community.

Volunteers are more than welcome as various outside groups and individuals have stepped in to help with the fun-stations.  Every individual is given the opportunity to be involved while relationships are built and the community is empowered.
